This past summer, Brianna Adelle ‘19 had the opportunity to intern with Symrise, the world's 3rd largest manufacturer of flavors, fragrances and cosmetic & aroma ingredients offering more than 30,000 products in over 160 countries. During her internship, Brianna took her love for science and chemistry and worked directly in the lab of Symrises' fine fragrance office in New York City. Working with Lab Manager Nina Odeh and Senior Lab Technician & Raw Material Specialist Stephanie Garafola, Brianna learned first-hand how fragrances are created, developed, and brought to market in consumer products.
At the time, the Symrise team was already working on a project for Bath and Body Works for a new holiday product launch with perfumer Trish Bilodeau. Little did Brianna know that the work she did with the team all summer long would wind up in stores this very holiday season! The Bath and Body Works team have named their new scent, "In the Stars". They describe it as, “an addictive fragrance that radiates from start to finish like the stars above. In The Stars is a warm, sparkling blend of starflower, sandalwood musk, sugared tangelo, white agarwood & radiant amber.”
This fragrance is not only expected to be a hit this year, but the Bath and Body Works team loved it so much that they are going to launch it as one of their "holiday regulars". It is rare that a fragrance is both developed and launched so quickly; it generally takes a little over a year to see the finished product in stores. A demand for quick pace, dedication, and a ton of hard work, was needed by everyone on the Symrise team, including Brianna!
So, the next time you're in the mall, think of Brianna as you pick up a bottle of “In the Stars” mist, lotion, shower gel, candles, and other bath products. We hear they make excellent stocking stuffers!
