The Emmaus Retreat is our school’s retreat program for juniors and seniors. It is an awesome experience – three days, two nights… a chance to ponder over Gospel attitudes and the needs of today’s teenage Christian, a time to share community, and a time for prayer. We call our retreats “Emmaus Retreats” after the Gospel story about two of Jesus’ disciples who come to recognize the Lord’s presence in their lives while on the road to Emmaus (Luke 24: 13-35.) We hope that all retreatants will have a similar experience.
We encourage all of our current sophomores and juniors to consider making the retreat – and know that you will have an experience which will last for the rest of your life. Don’t take our word for it – below are some sentiments of parents and students who have made the retreat in the past – see what they have to say – and make sure you don’t miss out on the same experience!
Students
“Going on Emmaus was on amazing experience for me. I was able to learn more about myself and others and strengthen my relationship with God. It was a time where I was able to get away from the craziness of life, relax, and have fun.”
“Before signing up for retreat at the last possible second, I was very skeptical about it. I didn't know anyone going, I didn't know what they were going to do there, and I didn't even know what it was really about. After long hours of skepticism, and finally going, all I can say is that it is a necessity for you to go. It doesn't matter who goes with you. It is a great, uplifting experience.”
“This retreat helped me understand a few things. It made me realize how God is present with me through everything. It opened my mind to the world and taught me not to judge anybody. I definitely recommend signing up for retreat if you aren't sure. You won't regret it!”
Parents
“Upon returning from retreat, I truly saw a light in our daughter. She seemed to open up herself to others. She was more willing to reach out. She is so grateful for such a wonderful, moving experience. I am most pleasantly surprised that she still has such a strong desire to bring this experience to other girls. She always smiles when she talks about her Emmaus journey. It was a special gift to her.”
“Our daughter was so excited about the Emmaus retreat until a few days before they were to leave. She started getting nervous about being away from home for three days. The morning they were leaving, she kept telling us she wasn't going. Her friends that were going convinced her to get on the bus and assured her that they would be there for her. She went, stayed the three days and came back after having what she calls: "the best weekend of her life that wasn't with her family!" I would, without a doubt, recommend for all parents to encourage their child to make an Emmaus retreat.”
“I am so happy that my son went on the Emmaus Retreat. He came home a better young man inside and out. His outlook on life is different. He got closer to God. I was a little nervous sending him, but I’m glad I did. It was a great experience for him. He knew some boys that went, but he also made new friends. I would recommend the Emmaus Retreat to every young man and woman. It’s a great experience”
So, what next?! Permission slips are available throughout the building (cafeteria, outside the admissions office.) To register, students will need to return the permission slip, signed by a parent/guardian, with a $100 deposit. Retreats will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis of those deposits we receive. Talk to your friends, and be sure to get this done now – you don’t want to get left out.
