The freshmen have begun participating in their quarterly guidance groups. A primary focus is to learn tools to enhance academic and personal responsibility, develop confidence and take positive action as a result. One session is solely devoted to academic guidance, such as study skills and time management for midterms and finals, understanding how to read their transcripts and report cards, etc.
On December 12th, 2016, PSAT scores will be available for sophomores and juniors at www.collegeboard.org. If your child has not yet created an account, they can do so now in order to be able to see their scores. College Board will give a detailed explanation regarding both their Evidenced Based Reading and Writing Score, and their Mathematics Score. Additionally, College Board has partnered with Khan Academy, a free service, which analyzes your child’s PSAT score and will give you a personalized SAT practice plan, including practice test, based on your child’s results. In order to link the College Board and Khan Academy accounts, follow these steps:
- Visit satpractice.org; this takes you to Khan Academy where you can create an account.
- Link your College Board and Khan Academy accounts by agreeing to the terms.
- Return to collegeboard.org, sign in and click on ‘Send’ to have the PSAT scores sent to Khan Academy.
This is an excellent opportunity for both sophomores and juniors to develop a plan to practice for the SAT by evaluating their performance on the PSAT.
Seniors are in the final weeks of preparing their college applications! Many students have signed up for onsite visits and submitted materials for Early Action or Early Decision. In these next few weeks, it is imperative that, after completing their applications, students make an appointment with their Guidance Counselor to request transcripts and letters of recommendation be submitted.
