October Campus Ministry Update

Lollipops for Homeless Mothers and their Newborns
Our Student Council has adopted 3 homeless mothers and their newborn babies. These mothers and babies live in the Frances Residence at CHiPS Soup Kitchen in downtown Brooklyn. While at Frances Residence, these mothers are taught skills to be able to procure a job and in the care of their newborn babies. In support of these mothers and their babies, the Student Council held a fundraiser sale of gourmet lollipops during the last week of October. At different times of the year (Christmas, Easter, birthdays, etc.) Student Council Members will shop for gifts for these mothers and their babies and deliver the gifts to the Frances Residence. Thank you all for your support of this project.

Breezy Point on the 4th Anniversary of Hurricane Sandy
On Saturday, October 29th, members of the Christian Service Class volunteered their services, joining the Breezy Point Cooperative, to help plant beach grass on the bayside dunes. The sea grass naturally aides in protecting against shore erosion.  In his last encyclical letter, Laudato Si’ our Holy Father, Pope Francis teaches that “care for the things of the earth is necessarily bound together with our care of one another, especially the poor.” It is wonderful to witness young people reaching out to the community and supporting their fellow residents while at the same time taking care of the environment and our common home.

November Canned Food Drive
As in the past, St. Edmund Prep will sponsor a canned food drive to support various Food Pantries in the area.  Donations can be dropped off in the Campus Ministry Office.
