Inaugural Christopher T. Wright Scholarship Presented

The Christopher T. Wright Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of beloved teacher, coach, and administrator, Chris Wright. His 40 year career in Catholic education was an inspiration to the students, faculty, and families he served. It will be presented annually to one junior selected on the basis of demonstration of the corporal works of mercy in daily life, and who champions fairness and social justice, principles by which Chris led his life.

The inaugural recipient is Christopher Goldman '25. As we began to canvas for nominations for this award, it quickly became evident that there was one name that continually appeared on the radar, a student who quickly emerged as the frontrunner since he virtually ticks off every single box in the scholarship’s criteria.

Christopher Goldman has participated in nearly every Midnight and Breakfast run since he joined the SEP ranks. Midnight Runs are held on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings, beginning with preparations of food and drink in the cafeteria followed by a crew who take our yellow school bus into Manhattan and set up shop at specific locations where we feed the hungry and offer supplies to the homeless. Chris has joined in every aspect of these trips.

He is also a regular participant at our monthly St. John’s Bread & Life trips, an opportunity for our students to visit a local food pantry and serve those who are experiencing food insecurity.

Chris was an Emmaus Retreatant and this year, as a senior, an Emmaus Retreat Leader.  He participated in our Summer Outreach program devoting a week of his summer vacation at the Romero Center Ministries in Camden, NJ where our students minister to the poor, the young, the aged and the sick. Chris is also currently training to become a Eucharistic Minister.

Simply stated, Christopher Goldman has an overwhelming desire to serve others.  He is often the first to volunteer and has such a big heart that he is never afraid to reach out to those in need. We are proud to recognize Chris with this scholarship.

St. Edmund Prep is grateful to all those who have contributed to the Christopher T. Wright Scholarship fund and to John and Regina Lynaugh Bratichak '76 for their leadership in establishing this scholarship in Chris' name. We also express our gratitude to Chris' family, his wife Joanne, and his son Michael for allowing us to honor Chris in this way.
