We began our season a few weeks before the school year started with tryouts. This year we had a total of eight returning players and eight new players, so we had a lot of bonding and rebuilding to do. We started the season strong with two great wins, that unfortunately lead to a few injuries. We quickly found ourselves at 2 - 2. With five games left in the season, the girls knew what they had to do. We turned it around by winning our next three games. Coming into the final game of the regular season, the girls buckled down and really prepared themselves both physically and mentally. This game determined if we had home field advantage going into the playoffs. The girls quickly got down to business and we took a 1-0 lead, however Monsignor Scanlan was hot and capitalized with their own goal. We found ourselves tied at 1-1 going into the second half. Thanks to our superstar midfielder, Lianna Lopez, we were able to take a 2-1 lead and end up winning that game and the home field advantage for playoffs.
With the playoffs at hand, we practiced hard and knew what we had to do. We clinched 3rd place in the league. Playoffs came and went. We fell short but the story is by far not a loss in my book. We played 80 minutes of regulation and an additional 14 minutes in overtime. The girls left their heart and soul on that field but unfortunately lost in a double overtime thriller.
Our Captain, MacKenzie Palisi '25, will be greatly missed. She always had our back and made a number of saves in the final game. She also had 3 goals throughout her final season, which is an amazing accomplishment for any goalkeeper.
As for our returning players, Shae Frank '26 (co-captain) and Nicolette Ramaglia '26 were our top scorers and are expected to continue to dominate next season. Midfielders Matilda Puchaber and Stella Collins will continue to excel and their throw-ins continue to go further and further. Jenna Lankford dominated on corner kicks leading the team with assists this season. Finally, we are nothing without our solid defense. Special shout out to Emma Armando '25 who stepped up and played a few games in net, giving Kenzie a chance to play the field, or when she was injured. Although our season ended earlier than we had hoped, we will be back next year with even bigger goals (pun intended). We will continue to fly like the Eagles we are and will be back next year bigger and better.
