The inductees not only demonstrate academic excellence but also model a commitment to character, service and leadership at school and within their home communities. They received pins and certificates to signify membership in the chapter. The following seniors will serve on this year's Executive Board: Artur Diakiv (President), Paul Catania (Vice President), Aria Murphy (Treasurer), Staci Mamounas (Secretary) and Minqian Liang (Historian). Our veteran members were also present at the induction to welcome our newest members and re-commit themselves to these core values of the National Honor Society. National Honor Society faculty advisor, Mr. Zwosta shared how our chapter’s name (Aurora) means “dawn” and reflected upon how the National Honor Society serves as a dawn of a new tomorrow filled with promise, hope and possibilities.
Mr. Joseph Romano '04 was this year's honorary member. The Aurora Chapter recognized his service and leadership within our school community. Our Executive Board introduced Mr. Romano saying "Mr. Romano does not just represent values like integrity, hard work, and honor—he lives them every day in the way he interacts with us and approaches his work."
Mr. Romano had an opportunity to speak with the members and provided the following advice to the students: "Be bold, do not be afraid to make mistakes. There is not one person sitting in this gym right now who hasn’t made a mistake, even the adults. The best thing to do when you do make a mistake is to learn and get better from it. Second, embrace failure. The only way to grow is by failing. Some of the best things in life can come from failure. Third, be prepared to roll with the punches. Life is going to throw you a lot of curveballs, just when you think that everything is running smoothly, you will face some sort of adversity and it will test your ability to get off the mat. Finally, BE YOU, BE MEN AND WOMEN FOR OTHERS, follow your faith, and all of the lessons that you learned here at the Prep." Mr. Romano was presented with a plaque displaying his honorary membership.
The National Honor Society will continue to assist other students with their studies through peer tutoring and participate in community service. We look forward to a successful, enjoyable year.
